Microchipping Month
June 2011 is National Microchipping Month
During June 2011 Okeford Veterinary Centre is Offering Microchipping at a reduced rate of £11.99
Take the opportunity NOW to get your pet permanently identified with a microchip!
What is it? A microchip is a small chip (about the size of a grain of rice), containing a unique 15 digit code, which is implanted between the shoulder blades, so that when a scanner is 'hovered' over your pet the unique code is received. The microchip code is the registered on the company database for the duration of your pets life.
Does it hurt? This depends on the animal! Implantaion is by needle, so like having an injection, but with a larger needle, which some smaller animals will feel.
What happens if my pet goes missing? You should contact the microchip company straight away as it would then be logged as missing (and don't forget to tell them once your pet is found and reunited with you!)
What happens if my pet is found by someone? Your pet can be taken to any Veterinary Surgery, Rescue Centre, Council (anywhere that has a microchip scanner!), they can then be scanned to reveal it's microchip number. The microchip company is then contacted and they identify your pet so that you can be contacted and reunited with your pet. (You must make sure your details are kept up to date on the Microchip database)
