What to do if you have lost your pet

We keep a book of the current lost and found pets that are reported to us. If you would like us to put that your pet is missing or that you have found an animal then call us and we will record the details for you. We will need the following information –

If you have lost your pet it is also a good idea to check locally, scared animals can run and hide somewhere where they feel safe. Check thoughly and ask as many neighbours as possible, the more people that know the better speaking to the milkman and the postman can be useful too.

We have a notice board and our Okehampton & Chagford branches where we can display posters of your missing pet, make sure the picture you use for a poster is clear and good quality and you have some wording on their description.

It is also a good idea to contact the dog warden, police, rescue organisations, local vets, some numbers are provided below.

If your pet is micro-chipped or wearing a collar with tag the reunification will be much easier and more likely. All pets should have some form of identification and if they haven’t you could be fined.

If you have insurance for your pet, its worth checking as some companies will pay for the cost of advertising your pet or even a reward. Even if your pet isn’t insured then doing these things can be very useful.
